Update to the Highway Code
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has recently updated the highway code to help road users better understand how motorways and high-speed roads operate. This includes:
- clearer advice on where to stop in an emergency
- the importance of not driving in a lane closed by a Red X
- the use of variable speed limits to manage congestion
- updated guidance on key factors that contribute to safety-related incidents, including driving while tired, unroadworthy vehicles, safe towing, tailgating and driving in roadworks
More information can be found on gov.uk here. Periodic trainers should be sure to update relevant courses accordingly to make sure they are delivering the most current advice to the drivers they train. If changes are minor, you do not need to submit updated course plans to JAUPT until they naturally expire.
