August 2020 - Update to the COVID-19 Rescue Protocol
The latest version of the COVID-19 Rescue Protocol (vsn 4). There have been amendments to include the commercial vehicles aspect, there are clear links to SURVIVE Safe System of Work link below, as well as taking into account what we have now learned about the spread of the virus.
However the advice continues to follow Government transport guidelines (link below) and the underlying advice around PIVR (Person In-Vehicle Recovery) remains unchanged i.e. only trained operatives should use the protocol guidance and that insurance companies should be consulted before using the protocol guidance and that it should only be used as a last resort and to the first place of safety.

ADDITIONAL NOTES REGARDING POLICE SCOTLAND
- Police Scotland want to keep PIVR activity to a minimum in Scotland and, as laid out in the Survive guidance PIVR practices should be used as a last resort.
- Where PIVR procedure is being used Police Scotland ask that the recovery technician make a phone call to the police on every occasion via the 101 telephone number and they will make every effort to attend to support the activity. This will include being escorted at 30mph to a safe location.
- On the rare occasion that a police resource is not available then the technician should follow the Survive guidance.
- On all occasions, the vehicle/occupants should be moved to the nearest point of safety.
