VR15 - Transporters and Low Loaders (heavy vehicle recovery)
Description | VR15 covers using heavy transporters and low loader trailers to carry our routine removal procedures for LGV vehicles in excess of 3500kg. The module also covers all safety aspects relating to this type of equipment. Learning Outcomes • Health and safety requirements applicable to the use of heavy transporter and low loader recovery units • Different types of heavy transporters and recovery low loader • Performance features of heavy transporters and low loader trailers • Equipment and vehicle checks associated with heavy transporters and low loaders • Calculating winch power required using resistance calculations • Loading and unloading procedures for fixed bed heavy transporters and low loader trailers • Loading and unloading procedure for heavy slidebed transporters and sliding axle low loader trailers • Transporting procedures and potential hazards Practical Outcome • The student will be able to demonstrate how to deploy a heavy transporter/low loader equipment, how to load the casualty safely and secure it, the ‘preparation to tow’ requirements, the correct unloading procedures 8 |
